Gnocchi

I'm pretty sure it's pronounced Gun-ah-chee, with a hard 'G'

In 1955, when it was discovered that the beloved children’s character, Pinocchio, had ties to the Nazi war effort, many Italian products in the US bearing a similar name suffered greatly in popularity. As such, gnocchi suffered a devastating blow in sales despite an attempt to boost its status by changing the name to Freedom Chunks. In 1965, famous Italian-American sous chef Boyardee again attempted to boost gnocchi sales by creating gnocchi rings that came pre-made in a can which he called GnocchiO’s; however the post-war sentiments remained and he was forced to change the name to SpaghettiO’s. It wasn’t until 1999 when Ricky Martin released his hit single Livin’ La Vida Loca, whose lyrics translate into a love song about pasta, that gnocchi finally received the recognition that it had so long deserved and sales began to recover.
